WELLS CREEK AREA The Wells Creek drainage contains the largest collection of waterfalls in the Mt. Baker area with at least 36. I suspect a couple other waterfalls that I haven't been able to confirm yet so this total could end up being over 40. Some of the waterfalls in this area are among the best in NW Washington and include both big, powerful waterfalls, and stunningly beautiful smaller waterfalls. Very few of these are easy to get to, but the rewards are high for those who do. Mazama Falls is the highest rated waterfall around Baker. Nooksack Falls and both Middle Sholes Creek Falls and Sholes Creek Falls rate very highly as well. Many of these waterfalls are accessed via Wells Creek Road, which is closed each winter from the end of October through June. Some of the others in the upper reaches of the creeks are most easily accessed from above via the Ptarmigan Ridge and Chain Lakes Trails. I have also included the waterfalls of Deadhorse, Boyd, and Cascade Creeks on this page because they are in the same general area. Click on the red-named waterfalls to get more information about them. |
