OBSESSION FALLS
RATING - 26.0

Obsession FallsHearty Creek begins its life in Heart Lake and proceeds to drop over eleven waterfalls on its way to the South Fork, culminating in Bridal Veil Falls.  As one progresses downstream, the names of the waterfalls follow the pattern from caring about someone as a person to falling more and more in love, eventually ending in marriage at Bridal Veil.  Obsession Falls is perhaps my favorite of all the waterfalls on Hearty Creek (which is saying a lot given how many really pretty waterfalls the creek has.  Above the falls, the creek meanders along through a gravel bed, surrounded by blueberry bushes, with no indication that it is about to drop off a cliff.  When it reaches the cliff, the creek plunges 47' in a 20' wide curtain of water, bouncing off the rocks as it falls.  The result is a nearly perfect waterfall in my opinion.  I did see one spot on the right side of the waterfall where it should be possible to scramble to the base but I enjoyed the view from the canyon rim just fine.  From the rim the waterfall appears to be taller than 47'.  My eyeball estimate was around 60' so the height was a mild disappointment once I crunched the numbers.  Combined with Agape Falls just downstream, this is one of the best one-two waterfall punches I've ever seen.  There are bigger waterfalls around, but not many that can top these two in the beauty department.  Luckily, they are also the easiest of the six waterfalls in the upper part of the creek to view.
