Chokwil
is a Nooksack word meaning "journey". To see this waterfall, you will
have to partake in a long trip. The falls is the final waterfall that
can be seen from the Swift Creek Trail as you head south. From the
trail, a fan-shaped drop around 120' tall can be seen. Topo maps seem
to indicate that the entire falls is closer to 200' but it's difficult to
see from the trail. I recently made my way down to the Swift Creek
riverbed where I was able to attain a slightly closer view. With
enough time and effort, it would be possible to get right to the base of
Chokwil Falls, and I may attempt to do just that at some point in the
future. |
