Crystal Falls is a small, though fairly pretty waterfall located at the Fire
Mountain Boy Scout Camp near Big Lake. The waterfall drops a total of
21' in two tiers: a 13' tall slide and an 8' tall plunge. The
falls are accessed via a nice, short trail through the woods with abundant
ferns and trees all around. During the summer the creek gets pretty
low in volume but it runs year round.
I'm not entirely sure about the legality of visiting the falls, but I saw no
indications that the public isn't allowed to visit. If you see any no
trespassing signs please respect them. I am attempting to confirm that
the waterfall is publicly accessible. |

DIRECTIONS - Turn onto Walker Valley Road off of
Highway 9 in Big Lake. Follow the road for a couple miles to a weird
3-way fork and take the far left to the scout camp. Park in the lot
and walk south along the upper road, through the boneyard of wood, picnic
tables, canoes, etc. until you get the DNR road. Turn right and follow
this for about 1/4 of a mile to the creek. The trail will begin
shortly after on the right side of the road. The trail is a 1/4 mile
loop, passing the falls and returning to the road. |
