GRAVEL PIT FALLS
DIRECTIONS - Drive east on Highway 20 past the town of Newhalem. The falls are about 1/2 a mile east of town. The bottom tier drops into a gravel pit right next to the highway. Coming from the east, the upper tier can easily be seen. I plan on climbing above the lower tier to photograph the upper drop this summer. | |
LOCATION - Ross Lake Area TYPE - Tiered HEIGHT - 300' WIDTH - 10' |
RATING - TYPE OF APPROACH - Roadside DIFFICULTY - Very Easy |
NEARBY WATERFALLS - Gorge Creek Falls, Granite Gorge Falls, Ketchum Creek Falls, Ladder Creek Falls, Newhalem Creek Falls, Newhalem Falls | The stream this falls occurs on is pretty small but I've never seen it run dry and seems to maintain a very consistant flow. The bottom tier drops over a man-made vertical wall about 85' right into a gravel pit next to the road. The upper tier can only be seen when coming from the east. I'm planning on climbing above the lower tier in the future and seeing if there is a middle tier in there somewhere or if the upper tier is one big drop. |
