Every
creek that drains off the west side of Mt. Si, known as the "Moon Wall", has
a waterfall or two. Hancock Creek is no exception. From the lake
to its convergence with the North Fork, Hancock Creek contains four major
waterfalls, as well as several other minor ones. Hancock Creek Falls
is the best of that group. The waterfall begins with a 45' tall, 70'
wide horseshoe-shaped segmented drop. It might be possible to
stand in the face of this drop from the south side of the creek with some
work. Below that the creek slides 63' down a bedrock ramp before
hitting a pocket and exploding outward for the final 28' tall drop.
The entire waterfall measures 138' in height and it is quite impressive.
On my trip the creek was running very high, making photography a little
difficult. On a normal day, I suspect this is a beautiful waterfall.
A hydro-electric project is in the process of being built on the creek so it
will be interesting to see how much water they let run. |
