MAZURKI FALLS

RATING - 24.0

VR - 3.6 (Med/Sm)               HR - 5.0                  SR - 6/20

TYPE OF APPROACH - Bushwhack

DIFFICULTY - Fairly Difficult

LOCATION - Newhalem Area

TYPE - Tiered

HEIGHT - 150'

WIDTH - 48'

Bottom tier of the fallsThis pretty waterfall is located right next door to Lower Babcock Creek Falls and consists of at least three tiers totally around 150' in height.  The lowermost tier is a pretty fan-shaped drop that tumbles down the cliff for 78', spreading out to 48' wide by the time it reaches the bottom.  Just upstream is another fan-shaped drop and a third tier lies just upstream from that.  I will give Babcock Creek Falls one more attempt before I declare it unreachable and I will make a full survey of this waterfall at that time as well.

There is at least one more waterfall on this same creek (or more likely the creek is one continuous waterfall) further upstream.  I have no idea how difficult that one would be to reach however.  I've named this waterfall after Michael Mazurki who was an early trapper in the area around Newhalem.

This certainly isn't a waterfall that you should go out of your way to reach, but if you happen to visit Lower Babcock, you can't miss this one.  The trip into both falls is my favorite type of bushwhack, simply rock-hopping upstream, occasionally crossing the creek, scrambling over and around logs and boulders . . . the good stuff.
DIRECTIONS - Follow the directions to Lower Babcock Creek Falls.  This waterfall will be seen dropping into the left side of the canyon right next door.  In order to see the upper tiers, one must climb up the very steep hillside along the creek.
