PORTFOLIO FALLS |

The three waterfalls on the North Fork of Index Creek occur in rapid succession and can be viewed fairly easily in a loop hike. This is not an official trail, and there are a few steepish spots, but it's nothing that anyone in reasonable shape shouldn't be able to pull off. The overall hike is a great one with three nice waterfalls and a total distance of around three miles round trip. It should be noted that the legality of visiting these three waterfalls is a little up in the air. In order to reach the trail one must walk across a bridge that says "Private Road and Property". I was told by a local that it's OK for the public to walk across and hike the trail but if you see any sign that you shouldn't be there, turn around. Portfolio Falls is the final of these three and is located just downstream from Directory Falls. Here Index Creek spreads out to nearly 90' wide and smashes down a 21' drop that crosses back-and-forth over itself along the way. The water then comes back together for a much narrower 15' drop bringing the total height to 36'. Because of the width and the large volume of the creek, it's a little tricky to photograph, but it's quite impressive in person. |

DIRECTIONS - From Directory Falls, continue following the path downstream to a side view of Portfolio Falls. Once done, keep following the ribboned path until it leads you back to the main trail, completing the loop. |
