Olney Creek is a large volume creek near the town of Gold Bar. Near the end of its run, the creek harbors two substantial waterfalls. This is the upper of those two. Here Olney Creek spreads out over an 80' wide ledge and thunders 27' into a pool creating such an immense amount of spray that it was virtually impossible to get a picture. I recently visited with the water level lower and the contrast is amazing. Instead of a raging torrent of water and mist, the creek drops in several smaller segments in a gentle fashion. Be sure to watch both videos below for a true picture of the split personality of Upper Olney Falls. |
DIRECTIONS -
Take Highway 2 east of Monroe and turn left onto Kellogg Lake Road.
Follow this for a short distance and park at the third gated road on the
right (right after another gated road leading to a house). Start
walking down the road, taking a right at the fork in 3/4 of a mile.
Another 1/2 a mile will lead to a bridge over Olney Creek and a view
downstream over the top of the falls. Smash through the brush
downstream to a soggy view of this monstrous falls. NEARBY WATERFALLS - Marsh Creek Falls, Olney Falls |
