Asbestos Creek Falls is a very tall, though relatively small volume, waterfall that is very similar to many of the other tall, multi-tiered falls along the Mountain Loop Highway in appearance. The difference here is that you can see this one up close and personal. I've listed the height as 315' because that's what I measured the visible portion as, but the falls are probably well over 1000' tall in total. Unfortunately, you can't see the whole thing from the base. The waterfall isn't horribly impressive other than its height, and later in the summer, it becomes fairly lackluster (see additional pictures below). Still, there's no reason not to take a peak at this waterfall since you won't even have to get out of the car to do so. |
DIRECTIONS - Take
the Mountain Loop Highway south of Darrington for about 2 miles to FR 2060. The
falls are right next to the road in a couple miles. You can climb on a very rugged
little trail along the right side of the creek to a good view above the bottom tier of the falls. NEARBY WATERFALLS - Asbestos Falls, Bornite Falls |
