Heather Meadows Falls is located right next to the Mt. Baker Highway, just before the loop around Picture Lake. The falls occur where Galena Creek drops around 30' over a cliff of amazing columnar basalt that is common in the area. After running under the bridge, the creek cascades over several more small drops that are very pretty as well. There are several good views of the falls including from the bridge, scrambling down to the base, or a nice view from the road to the left of the creek with a few flowers in the foreground (left). During lower water levels the falls can become much less impressive, but if you get them in the right conditions they can be phenomenal. It's definitely worth stopping to take a picture on your way up to Artists' Point or Picture Lake.

DIRECTIONS - Take
the Sunset exit from Bellingham and drive east on the Mt Baker Highway. The falls
are just off the road about 1/3 of a mile before the loop around Picture Lake
(near the end of the road). Be
sure to walk around Picture Lake while you're there (especially if it's sunny). The
views of Mt. Shuksan are world famous. NEARBY WATERFALLS - Bagley Lakes Falls |
