PILCHUCK FALLS |
|
RATING - 4/10 TYPE OF APPROACH - Bushwhack DIFFICULTY - Easy LOCATION - Lake McMurray Area TYPE - Block HEIGHT - 14' WIDTH - 60' |
Normally Pilchuck Falls is a segmented waterfall with one main drop and a couple smaller ones. However, when the river is running high, it can be one huge block waterfall around 60' wide. Here's a video of a kayaker running the falls to give you an idea of what it looks like in high water. The trail down to the falls is pretty steep and difficult. During the summer, people jump from the cliffs next to the falls into a very deep pool at the bottom.

DIRECTIONS -
Take HWY 9 south from Sedro-Woolley and turn onto Lake Cavanaugh Road. Turn
right onto Grandstrom road and follow it for about 3/4 of a mile. Where the road turns sharply
to the right, you will see a gravel road going straight ahead. Park at the gate and
walk .3 of a mile up the road. Where you cross under the power lines, you will see a
trail heading down to the right. Follow it to the falls or just enjoy the view from
above. The trail is very steep in spots and involves using a series of
ropes to get to the bottom so this isn't one to visit with the kids. NEARBY WATERFALLS - Brotherhood Falls |
