Portrait Falls occurs along two streams that flow off the Deming Glacier and down Portrait Rock. The left segment of the falls occurs on a small stream that drops about 400' in three tiers. The right, and main, section of the falls is a much larger volume drop, horsetailing for about 100' from a lobe of the Deming Glacier onto another arm of the glacier. Closer views are apparently possible by following the Railroad Grade up to High Camp. From the lookout, the falls is mostly a nice accent to the amazing view of Mt. Baker. |
DIRECTIONS
- Take the Park Butte trail from the end of FR 13. Part of the falls
can be seen from the Park Butte Lookout from several miles away.
Closer views including a view of the main segment of the falls are available
from the Railroad Grade trail but I haven't been up there yet. NEARBY WATERFALLS - Cravens Falls, Easton Falls, Mazama Park Falls |
