| DIRECTIONS -
Head east from Verlot for 4.5 miles and turn right onto FR 4020. In
two and a half miles, take the right onto FR 4021. Take the left at
the next fork and park. Hike along the trail, passing Upper Ashland
Lake at the 2 mile mark and Lower Ashland Lake in another 3/4 of a mile.
From there follow the trail (which is currently "closed") to Twin Falls Lake
in another two miles. This section of the trail is a little rough with
some broken bridges and walkways. The trail seems to disappear at one

While
Twin Falls itself isn't that great, the area around the falls is amazing!
Little Twin Falls lake is surrounded on its north side by a massive 100'
tall cliff wall, travelling the length of the lake. Around the lake
are some great campsites with nice views of the lake and falls as well as
looking out over Lower Twin Falls at the Pilchuck River Valley. A sign at the lake explains the
geology of the lake: Apparently, at some point during the ice age, the
Skagit, Sauk, and Stillaguamish Rivers all ran through the tiny valley,
dumping massive amounts of water over the cliff, created a huge pothole that
is now Twin Falls Lake. That must have been a pretty amazing sight!
While the trail into the falls is pretty difficult, this is a great location
that would make a perfect camp spot if they open the trail back up.
