Marten Creek is the first major creek crossed on the Taylor River Trail. The creek contains two major waterfalls. The upper falls occurs a short distance after the creek leaves the lake. The upper tier is a pretty fan shaped drop where the creek runs over a dome of granite. To the right, a seasonal stream joins Marten Creek via its own cascading waterfall. The creek continues to cascade before splitting in two and dropping about 55' over two side-by-side drops. The one view we got of this tier was standing atop a cliff over Marten Creek and only the right segment could be easily seen. Were it possible to get to the creek somehow, this would be a pretty awesome waterfall. |
DIRECTIONS -
Follow the directions to Dog Mountain Falls.
Continue along the Marten Lake Trail for another 1/2 a mile or so. The
upper tier can be seen partially from the trail. A short bushwhack is
required for a clear view. An over-the-top view of the lower tier can
be attained fairly easily but we saw no easy way to get a good view of the
bigger, lower tier. NEARBY WATERFALLS - Big Creek Falls, Dog Mountain Falls, Lower Taylor Falls, Marten Creek Falls, Otter Falls |
